This has been called an ‘old-fashioned acreage’ meaning it is not a long strip (usually created by subdivisions) but close to a square, 2700 ft by 3000 ft. The Smithville Road provides one of the long sides of the property, and the old railway line running from Inverness to the Canso Causeway - now the Celtic Shores Coastal Trail - is the other long boundary.
The property was once a farm. A sketch of the property, made long ago, is interesting in that it locates features of the old homestead - house, barn and various springs - that may not be easy to find these days.
The Glendyre brook winds along the southern edge of the property, as can be seen in this older survey:
The property has just recently been cruised by a professional forester. Here is his sketch of the property from a woods resources point of view:
Location
This is an easy property to get to, only 3 kms off Route 19, which is the main highway up the west coast of Cape Breton, aka the Ceilidh Trail.
From where you join Highway 19 it’s 10 minutes north to Inverness, 5 minutes south to Mabou. Inverness has shops and restaurants plus a hospital, a 3 mile beach, golf at Cabot, harness racing…. Other famous beaches are near Mabou, with music and dining at the Red Shoe among other places.
Access to the Coastal Trail is a wonderful benefit. Take it to go walking, cycling, horse-riding, skiing, 4-wheeling etc. Visit various communities, beaches and other attractions anywhere between Inverness and the Causeway. Look at https://www.celticshores.ca/ for information and photos.
This huge acreage offers all kinds of possibilities to a new owner.
