Log Home, Margaree Valley...................................$549,000

Against the back-drop of Frasers Mountain, this exceptional pine log home makes a dazzling impression on entering, with the vaulted ceiling soaring over the living area. Built just 9 years ago, there are 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms. The house has every feature - for details read on - and the level of finish is outstanding throughout. Situated on 9.25 acres of woods and meadow.

The basement, 30' x 40', has ICF walls 9' high inside. A utility room houses the electric h/w furnace which serves as back-up to the outside wood-fired boiler, also a water treatment system, air exchanger, and central vac. Apart from some drywall, the basement is largely unfinished. The house now has 1,200 sq ft on the main floor, about 800 upstairs, and potentially the same or more again in the basement.

The high ceiling gives the whole main floor a spacious open feel, with so many windows flooding the space with light.

The kitchen has a 2-level island and stainless appliances. Beautiful work is evident in the cabinetry and counters. One bedroom is on the main floor, along with a full bath and laundry.

Upstairs a living space with balcony overlooks the downstairs. Then two more bedrooms - one of them huge - and a bathroom complete this floor. Almost all the ceilings and walls that are not logs are wood panelled. Not much point trying to describe the effect of this in words - look at the photos. The level of finish  detail in the logs - and everywhere in the home - is quite exquisite:

Flooring is wood or tile. The heating system is in-floor for the basement and main levels, powered by an outside wood furnace with accompanying wood shed.

Broad decks surround most of the house, with massive logs supporting roofs over them. Roofing is all green metal, a nice complement to the golden logs. Lovely landscaping surrounds the house.

The property is on the East Big Intervale road. Here's the view from the back of the house:

Unfortunately it's not Fall now, to show these hills in all their colours.

In terms of local landmarks, it's 4 miles to the Dancing Goat! And the Cabot Trail. The salmon Hatchery is less than 1/2 mile away, and there are at least a dozen named salmon pools with a couple of miles - this is fishing country on the North East Margaree river!

Also it's snowmobiling country, and cross-country skiing. Trails from here go all over the highlands.

24 miles to Inverness, about half an hour's drive. 12 miles to Margaree Harbour and ocean beaches. 20 to the Trans Canada Highway, and then 5 more to Baddeck.
